NABS LOVE STORIES

May 18, 2025 by Jennifer Ford Corresponding Secretary 5 Comments

A Love That Bubbled Up from the Deep Story from Q Guillory

Some love stories begin with grand gestures, sweeping glances, or chance encounters in crowded cities. Ours began underwater—or at least, in a community that lives and breathes the ocean. It all started with a NABS (National Association of Black Scuba Divers) Zoom call. I logged in expecting updates, maybe some dive banter—but definitely not expecting to meet her.

There she was—Allyson. Vibrant, poised, passionate. The kind of presence that doesn’t just light up a screen, it shifts the whole current. As she spoke about marine conservation and dive safety, I found myself captivated. Not just by what she said, but how she said it—with the calm confidence of someone who’s deeply connected to the world around her.

After the call, I sent her a message. Just a simple, “Hey, great insights tonight.” But from that small ripple, something incredible began. One message turned into late-night chats, into laughter that felt too easy, into Zoom calls that lasted hours, sometimes just to hear each other’s voices. We started with scuba, but we surfaced with love.

From digital to tangible, we met in person at a NABS dive trip months later—and it confirmed everything. The connection wasn’t just real—it was rare. Over time, we built a bond as natural and vast as the ocean. Through dives, life talks, and adventures, we grew inseparable.

So on May 15, 2026, in the sun-drenched paradise of St. Croix, we will say “I do.” Surrounded by family, friends, and the sea that brought us together, we will make it official—promising to dive into life side by side, through calm waters and storms.

Afterwards, we’re off on our Scubamoon in Fiji—celebrating not just our love, but the deep, serendipitous journey that brought us here.

It all started on a NABS Zoom call. The rest? It’s officially Black history.
