🌊 NABS Aqua Corps Candidacy Application

The NABS Aqua Corps is an elite, safety-centered collective within the National Association of Black Scuba Divers dedicated to advancing dive readiness, emergency preparedness, and leadership development across our network.

Aqua Corps members represent a higher standard of accountability, skill progression, and service to the NABS community.

If you are committed to elevating your training, strengthening your rescue capabilities, and supporting operational safety at NABS events and activities, we invite you to apply.


🌟 Purpose of Aqua Corps

The Aqua Corps exists to:

  • Strengthen dive safety culture across NABS

  • Promote advanced training and preparedness

  • Support event-based safety operations

  • Mentor divers through skill progression

  • Reinforce the NABS β€œOne Level Up” philosophy

Members serve as examples of discipline, preparedness, and continuous improvement.


πŸ₯‡ Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a current financial member of NABS

  • Hold a minimum certification of Advanced Open Water (or equivalent)

  • Maintain current CPR / First Aid / Emergency Oxygen certifications

  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing training and leadership development

  • Agree to uphold NABS safety protocols and standards

Rescue Diver certification is strongly encouraged.


🌊 Candidate Expectations

Aqua Corps Candidates are expected to:

βœ” Participate in periodic safety drills and skill refreshers
βœ” Maintain physical fitness appropriate for rescue readiness
βœ” Assist in dive briefings and safety oversight when requested
βœ” Model exemplary dive conduct and situational awareness
βœ” Commit to continuing education (technical, rescue, scientific, or instructor pathways)

This is not simply a title β€” it is a responsibility.


πŸš‘ Training Emphasis

Aqua Corps focuses on:

  • Rescue response proficiency

  • Emergency management protocols

  • Surface and underwater problem-solving

  • Equipment redundancy & preparedness

  • Leadership communication during dive operations

Members are encouraged to pursue:

  • Rescue & Divemaster pathways

  • Instructor-level certifications

  • CPR / O2 Instructor credentials

  • Full Face Mask & advanced safety training

  • Scientific & conservation-based diving opportunities


🌍 Selection Process

  1. Submit completed application form

  2. Provide proof of certifications

  3. Complete candidate review with Aqua Corps leadership

  4. Participate in practical evaluation (if required)

  5. Receive official designation upon approval

Acceptance into Aqua Corps reflects readiness, not just certification level.
