Valenda Johnson, also known as “De Phillips,” has been selected as a NABS Spotlight Diver. She is an Advanced Open Water Diver, President of the Nubian Dive Club since 2025, NABS Marketing Chair, and owner/founder of Nappiology.
Certified in 2017 by Jimi Mack, Valenda completed her 205th dive on July 14, 2025, at Fantasy Island in Honduras. Originally from Wichita, Texas, and now residing in Tomball, Texas, she is known as an energetic leader and strong advocate for NABS, consistently promoting the organization and helping take the Nubian Dive Club to new levels.
Outside of diving and leading the Nubian Dive Club, Valenda also enjoys playing golf.

Since stepping into the position, she has elevated NABS branding and visibility to new heights. Her leadership has helped transform the NABS online store into a dynamic platform that showcases the organization with pride while creating new opportunities for member engagement and support.
Valenda has also been instrumental in enhancing the NABS presence at BTS and other events through professionally designed backdrops, eye-catching displays, promotional giveaways, and interactive booth experiences that attract visitors and leave a lasting impression. Her attention to detail, innovative ideas, and commitment to excellence have helped present NABS as a polished and professional organization while strengthening our ability to connect with divers, future members, and industry partners.
Her passion, dedication, and tireless advocacy for NABS are evident in everything she does. Whether promoting the organization online, supporting events, or creating opportunities to showcase the NABS mission, Valenda consistently goes above and beyond. Her enthusiasm is contagious, her work ethic is unmatched, and her impact on NABS continues to be felt throughout the organization. She truly embodies what it means to go “One Level Up” and is a deserving Spotlight Diver.
